We couldn’t be more thrilled to have added Acupuncture to our roster and wanted to walk you through what to expect! If you haven’t yet been to our clinic in the heart of Downtown London, Ontario, a visit for Acupuncture is a great reason to come on in. So here’s what you can look forward to with our brilliant team of Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners.

In our cozy building, you are welcome to start your visit with a glass of water or a cup of tea. Our waiting room is the perfect place to take a deep breath and soak in the calming energy of our clinic before going up for your treatment. Our acupuncture space is tucked in a quiet upstairs room with soft linens, natural light, and peaceful music to ensure the most beneficial and relaxing experience. The treatment will begin with a brief introduction to your practitioner, various potential treatment options, and an outline of the visit. We always encourage you to ask questions – all questions are good questions, especially if this is your first time receiving Acupuncture in London, Ontario.

Understanding your history and goals for treatment is paramount so taking the time to thoroughly discuss your health history and symptoms will be the focus of your initial visit. You’ll review your personal and family health history, any medications or supplements you are currently using or have used in the past, and go over things like digestion, sleep habits, diet, energy, and mood. Traditional Chinese Medicine encompasses a variety of observation methods including visual, auditory, and olfactory. Your practitioner will be looking, listening, and smelling to pick up on subtle cues from the body pointing to areas of interest. A physical examination to assess your pulse at six different points in the wrist will give insights into organ function also allowing the practitioner a deeper understanding on how to improve your body’s internal balance.
It's important to us as a Trauma Informed clinic that you feel at ease during the process so we will continue to explain and check in throughout your treatment to ensure you are comfortable, confident, and informed. Once the assessment is completed, diagnosis and a proposed treatment plan will be discussed including things like acupuncture, herbal supplements, and other modalities that will support the treatment plan. If you are in agreement, acupuncture needles will be placed at the points best suited for you. A small gauze will be used to disinfect the identified points and allowed to dry. Then the needle will be gently placed at varying depths. If you haven’t had acupuncture before, it is a very mild sensation.  For those who feel unsure, will coach you on breathing techniques to help you feel as calm as possible. We will continue to check in and adjust if there is any discomfort to maximize results. Many feel the positive effects within the first 15 minutes. Although the effects are subtle, the impact can be quite significant. The needles will be retained depending on the treatment for anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes. Once the desired retention is completed, the needles will be gently removed with minimal sensation – it feels a bit like pulling off a very tiny sticker. We’ll give you a moment to adjust as you prepare to continue on with your day and confirm how you feel and what you’ve noticed.
Our goal is to help you feel welcome, at ease and to leave feeling more relaxed and on the right track in working towards your goals. We hope to see you soon and look forward to introducing you to our acupuncture team.
